How to Test Vaginal pH with a Simple Test?

You may know your vaginal pH using a very simple test. Optimal pH levels are between 3.8 and 4.4.

If you have symptoms such as itching, burning, unpleasant odor or unusual vaginal discharge, you may suffer from Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), Trichomoniasis, Candida albicans or other similar infectious diseases. A pH test can help to find the reason.

So, how do you use the pH test?

1. Prepare the pH test and swab.

2. Wash your hand and take out the test panel from the sealed pouch and place it on a clean desk.

3. Use the swab to take some vaginal secretion and apply the head of swab onto pH area of the test panel at least 5 times, make sure enough secretion is applied on the pH area of the test panel.

4. Read the result while the measurement zone is still wet, and compare the color in the pH measurement zone with the color scale on the pouch.

A healthy vagina should be acidic, with a pH between 3.8 and 4.4 - The color for this indicator is Yellow-Green. If the pH result is higher than 4.4, it indicates the natural flora is imbalanced and you may suffer from an infection such as BV. This quick and simple test can help you decide if you need to seek a doctor’s advice.

If you don’t feel comfortable performing the test yourself or you are concerned about specific symptoms you are displaying, book an appointment with your doctor. Besides a vaginal pH test, they may also carry out other tests.
